Put an End to Overeating

Put an End to Overeating

No matter how hard you try to restrain yourself, do you always end up eating more calories than you should?

It’s not your fault. Our appetites exceed our caloric requirements.

So how can you manipulate your natural instinct to overeat? The answer is intermittent fasting.

Implement the following 3 steps:

Step 1:

Stop eating all the time! This is as simple as skipping breakfast. Instead of eating from the moment you wake up until you go to bed (which represents approximately 15 waking hours), try eating only from noon until 8pm (8 hours). If you tend to pig out at night, then try eating only from 3:30pm until 9:30pm (6 hours). It’s much harder to eat 3000 calories during a 6-hour eating window compared to eating 3000 calories during a 15-hour eating window. A narrower eating window will minimize the chances of overconsumption.

Step 2:

Place your eating window during a time when you tend to eat the most. For most people, this occurs at night. You are less likely to over-consume if you only eat at night. You are more likely to over-consume if you eat at night, but also consume lunch and breakfast!

Step 3:

Break your fast with loads of vegetables, as well as lean protein. If you are hunting through your cupboards at night for junk to eat, it's probably because you didn't sufficiently fill your belly with a truckload of veggies and lean protein. Could you add more veggies to your plate next time? (this is referred to as the principle of volumetrics and it will prevent you from over-consuming).

That’s why I break my fast with tons of vegetables and eat during an 8 hour window in the afternoon/evening. If I ate any longer than 8 hours, or earlier than noon, I’d end up eating more calories than I should.
