The Problem With Rib Remodelling
Would you pay $15,000 to permanently reshape your ribs for a smaller waist?
A cosmetic procedure known as rib remodelling/rib recontouring is being promoted as a minimally invasive way to create a more “snatched” waist. Rather than removing the ribs, the procedure weakens and repositions the lower ribs, followed by months of corset use while the bones heal and remodel.
Immediately, my physiotherapy brain started asking these questions:
What happens to breathing mechanics? Ribcage mobility? Diaphragm function? Pressure management? The pelvic floor? And what compensations might show up 5, 10 or 20 years later?
In this video, I break down why the rib cage is much more than an aesthetic structure, and why short-term surgical complication rates don’t answer the questions I have about long-term function.
We’ll talk about the relationship between the rib cage, diaphragm, abdominal wall and pelvic floor; what happens to pressure when you cinch the middle of the core canister; chronic inhalation and breathing compensation; and why preserving ribcage mobility matters as we age.
And if what you really want is an hourglass appearance, I also explain how you can build one without permanently altering your rib cage.
Stop chasing. Start building. Become harder to kill.
