Protein Powder Options

I'm a fan of whey protein powder, but it has to taste amazing! That is why I wanted to be sponsored by BSN... their award-winning protein powders are delicious!

Syntha-6 EDGE

Syntha-6 Isolate

There are a variety of options (and I have tried them all), so please read my explanations below. I didn't copy and paste the descriptions from BSN, but rather, I am sharing with you my honest opinion.

I already know what you are thinking... Sara... which one is YOUR favourite?

  • If I could only have one, it would be Syntha-6 Edge because it's delicious (there are many flavour options) and only 150 calories per scoop.
  • I use all the options listed below in my recipes on because variety is the spice of life. Feel free to substitute with your favourite protein powder in my recipes.

SYNTHA-6 has a reputation for being the best-tasting protein powder on the market. The only catch is that one scoop is 200 calories, so it's better suited for "dudes". You can compromise and use 3/4 of a scoop for ~150 calories, but then you significantly slash your protein intake. I prefer to use Syntha-6 Edge because it's just as tasty, and one scoop has 24g protein and only 150 calories.

For one scoop of Syntha-6: 200 calories, 6g fat, 14g carbs, 22g protein.

It's available in many flavours. I recommend the German Chocolate Cake and Salted Caramel. Blending Syntha-6 with unsweetened cashew milk and a frozen banana tastes great!

Syntha-6 EDGE is my favourite protein powder because it has the same award-winning taste and texture as the original Syntha-6, except it has fewer calories, carbs and fat.

For one scoop: 150 calories, 3.5g fat, 6g carbs, 24g protein.

This is ideal for WOMEN or anyone who wants to lean out and keep their calories in check (without compromising taste). If you are dieting for fat loss, then anytime you see "Syntha-6" in one of my recipes, I recommend you use Syntha-6 Edge instead.

There are MANY flavour options. My favourites are Peanut Butter Cookie and Chocolate. If you are making my Pumpkin Recipes from my Pumpkin Recipes eBook, I recommend the Cinnamon Bun flavoured Syntha-6 EDGE. I also recommend you try my Syntha-6 Edge Chocolate Bar Recipe!

Syntha-6 Isolate is a blend of fast- (whey protein isolate) and slow-release (milk protein isolate) protein sources. It has less calories, more protein, less carbs, and less fat than the original Syntha-6, making it a good choice for a fat loss regime. Syntha-6 Isolate is an ideal option for an intermittent faster to take at the end of his or her eating window because it contains CASEIN. It’s also suitable for any other time during the eating window.

Because it contains CASEIN, this makes it very THICK. So if you like to make protein pudding, then Syntha-6 Isolate is for you! Some people are turned off by the thick texture of casein shakes. If you buy it and dislike the texture of the shake, you can always use it to make recipes.

For one scoop: 140 calories, 1.5g fat, 7g carbs, 25g protein.

It's available in 5 flavour options. I really like the Chocolate Peanut Butter and the Peanut Butter Cookie flavours.

Isoburn is 100% whey protein isolate. It's called BSN's "fat-burning protein powder matrix" because it contains green coffee extract, L-carnitine and lepticore, which may support fat burning and healthy weight management. So if you are on a mission to get shredded, then Isoburn is for you.

It is available in 3 flavour options (chocolate, strawberry and vanilla).

If I were prepping for a competition or photo shoot, I'd use Isoburn. But since it's a leaner protein, it's not as tasty as the other higher calorie BSN protein powders.

For one scoop: 120 calories, 2g fat, 6g carbs, 20g protein.
